I am in love.

I don't have much time for a long entry. I will post some photos of France. Let me tell you...this place is amazing.

This is the view from the house. This photo I took at a church in St. something....my photo journal is upstairs! I'll update this better soon.

Oh, I forgot. I saw a peace protest in London. This man named Brian Haw has been sitting outside the parliament building since 2001 to protest against the War in Iraq.

I am also staying here with a Buddhist Monk who has met Sylvia Plath.

Are you excited yet?

I am here in Manchester, UK, but it doesn’t feel like I am here. It feels like I am in Toronto in the daytime and Windsor in the nighttime. Striking similarities between here and there – or there and here (depending on the location of the one who is reading this).

I am writing this while sipping on a Strongbow that was given to by my Edinburgh neighbours. Last night they knocked on our door. Two knocks then a mannish giggle.

To sum up the past two days is simple:

My suitcase is not small, just right. Yes, Jami and Heather – I packed extremely well! I think of it as an art. Amber’s sweet parents drove us to Toronto. They were staying one night in Toronto and brought a bigger suitcase than me.
It weighed 9.3 lbs. Amber’s weighed 13 or 17 lbs. We can’t remember.

I was my usual self during takeoff. It was comforting to know that Amber hated take off just as much as I did. I had to remind her (and myself to breathe). I knew she was breathing. She kept saying “Holy fuck!” Once in the air it was very relaxing. Almost like in a train 33,000 feet in the air.

I got spoiled during our two “hot meals.” They gave me vegan food. Lots of fruit!

We were located right near the wing. Nice view.

Our hostel is called “Hilton Chambers.” A cute little hotel. We have four beds in a decent sized room with an ensuite bathroom. We have our own key cards so we can leave all of our stuff in the room. Saturday night we had two guys. Sunday it is just us.

Our Italian roommate, Giuseppe, invited us out for drinks with two of his friends (one from England the other a cute little Norwegian girl. We accepted and had a great time. One of the boys, Jay, is trying to find a cure for meningitis or something. It seemed like a bullshit story, but he had like 4 people from a conference there with him. So, it’s hard not to believe

Amber and I got really drunk, went to Subway then joined a casino. Strolled home at 4 AM, which was really 11 PM in Canada – so I think we went home a tad too early.

Oh, and we found a British version of “The Loop.” It is most definitely called “Fab CafĂ©.” And everyone and their mother should go there.

Today was a lot of sight seeing. A lot of thing are closed on Sunday...so we just took some photos. Those will come soon. They are on the canon.

Monday Adventures

Note: In my previous blog, I complained about blogger. I have yet to find a suitable replacement. So, as for now, I will put up with with it. Unhappily of course.

Monday Adventures

Every Monday (so it seems), my mum and I have been venturing off into the county. Me with my camera of course, snapping photographs along the way. I thought I would chronicle our adventures.

My mum took me to this swan pond south of Amherstburg on Highway 18. Here, we found a nesting site for some of the most beautiful swans. I wish I had my zoom lens to get a little closer.

Our next stop was Colasonti's to do some plant shopping. And of course, we made a stop at the petting zoo to see the animals. Like this parrot who liked to imitate every movement of my mum. Even imitating her laugh.
And this Billy Goat's Gruff....who was trying to scare me away with his evil eye...

More to come...

Officially Hates Blogger

I am trying to find a new blog host.
I am sort of bored with blogger.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Meanwhile, the weather network has promised Amherstburg for a huge thunderstorm. Needlessness to say, it has conveniently decided to hit everywhere else in the county, except here.

Today we got a bit of drizzle. But I want lightening! Thunder!

This is all we got. A few clouds. A little wind.

Lance Arts Edition

So, last week, my photo appeared in the Lance Arts Edition....appearing a more or less...like a gray box. Along with my name being spelled wrong (listing Chelsi not CHELSIE) and a typo in my major (listing langugae instead of language)...things didn't seem to be going so well.

But thanks to the editor of the lance, I have some clear proofs of what the photo was intended to look like. Spelling mistakes are still intact.

AND, Braydon's poem is right next to my photo (which is some very fine creative writing).

CHN Bathrooms - the Basement.

I did a mini photo shoot with Amber and Snijana for the magazine See/Saw.

For some reason...we like spinning!

The Cutest Dog in the World

The sun peaked out just in time for a magnificent sunset.
And of course, Mr. Marty just had to be in the shot.

Birthday celebrations went very well.
I laughed until my face hurt. I danced and twirled.
I did not wear my red dress....but I drank red wine!

I also booked EUROPE!
June 19th until July 11th.

I apologize for the lack of posts.
I have about 2000 photos that are now on my hard drive.

Old Creepy Church

I must say - the lighting in here was incredible.

I had to take some photos at my mum's church..and the vibes were very creepy. There were weird shadows and reflections that just appeared in my frame.....like this reflection on the wall.

This is a definitely a cop out post - but I need a shower and editing photos takes too long.

A Very Sad Day.

I had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Humane Society. I am writing an article about the expansion and today was just another wake up call that we have to donate to this cause. If you would like to know more about the expansion and how to donate please visit www.windsorhumane.org

This is why the Windsor community needs to donate. Right now they have rooms like this filled with kittens, cats and dogs...even rabbits! The expansion will house more than 35% more animals! That is 35% more animals that can be saved by unnecessary euthanasia.
This little one is the one that I want to adopt. A eight year old Yorkie-poo!!

In their cat room....this little one wanted to escape...
Peek-a-boo.

Freddie. The HS Mascot! I have photos of his buddy - Eddie!

This little one - thanks to the generous donations from the Pumpkin fund - was rescued. He has a broken pelvis and his leg has to be amputated. His tale was waggling when he saw us.

Free Speech Rocks.

A photoless post on my blog! Can it be?

I have been too busy to take any photos. I apologize Mr. Canon EOS 40D - soon you strap will be around my neck - where it belongs.

But for now - a post on an event happening right on Campus.

My intention for writing this article was suppose to be for the magazine for Hypertext. However, I have be told (and I refuse to argue - nor will I waste the effort) that politics "do not belong in the magazine."

But, since blogs are about free speech.....I will put it on here...and write a longer article after the event has taken place. Thank you much to John Esposito for conducting an interview with yours truly.

Enjoy!

Elizabeth May plans to visit the University of Windsor
Green Party leader expected to deliver a “vibrant speech”

Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party of Canada, is scheduled to visit the University of Windsor to discuss the future of a green economy in Canada.

May, whose name made headline news after she challenged her right to participate in the leaders’ debates during the federal election last October, will take the podium at the new Medical Education Building on March 12, 2009.

Founder of Young Greens of Windsor and University of Windsor graduate John Esposito has great expectations for May’s visit to the Windsor. Having spent time with May during her London North Centre By-election in 2006 and this past summer in Guelph, Esposito is confident that May’s speech will attract a crowd.

“Elizabeth is truly green to the bone,” Esposito says. “Her passion and friendliness is contagious. People will instantly fall in love with her.”

May is expected to address the current economic state of Canada and the benefits of pursuing a low carbon and sustainable economy. With Windsor’s crumbling automotive industry some are questioning if this is the right time to be pursuing a green economy. Esposito says no.

“The right time was years ago,” he says. “But, if we don’t act now it’s only going to get worse. We are one of the most wasteful, inefficient economies of the world.”

After hitting the campaign trail as the Windsor-West Green Party candidate during the last federal election, Esposito is confident that Windsor can be the green economy for all of Canada.

“At the time of the last election there was a 9.6% unemployment rate. It is much higher now. If we had green jobs years ago, we wouldn’t be hear today,” he adds.

Elizabeth May will be speaking on March 12 at 7:30 pm in the lobby of the Medical Education Building at the University of Windsor. This event is open to all students and is free of charge. For more information please visit the Green Corridor website at http://www.greencorridor.ca or call (519) 253 3000 ext. 2849.

Yay! Book Cover!

Photo: Marty Gervais
Design: Me!

Really - its not suppose to be that green. When I convert it to a JPEG - the colours go all wonky.

Book Cover...Maybe?

I don't know why it is green - it's suppose to be turquoise.
But here is what I think should go on the cover....with a few modifications.
